I wanted to share a quote I came across today. I found it to be very powerful and inspirational. It read: “If I asked you to name all the things you love, how long would it take to name yourself?” This was eye opening to me because I would never think to name myself when asked to name what I love, even though I do know that I truly do love myself.
I think that in this world we live in, it’s hard for people to love themselves, and I can’t blame them. It’s a serious problem, especially for women these days. It’s hard to love yourself for exactly who you are because beautiful, successful and seemingly perfect people are constantly thrown in our faces every day. Inner beauty is so often overlooked, and is hard to portray on social media for the rest of the world to see and to envy. As much as I love social media, it is a major factor when it comes to the lack of confidence we see day to day.
The most important thing to remember when you see all these perfect models on Instagram or in advertisements is that they are paid to look good. They are literally paid to workout with personal trainers for hours a day to maintain their physique, they have chefs cooking them healthy meals with the best ingredients, and don’t forget about Photoshop! Keeping all of these key factors in mind the next time you look at a model and think that they are so much better and prettier than you is guaranteed to make you think twice about putting yourself down. Yes, natural beauty does exist, but being beautiful on the inside is more important. You can’t put a filter on your personality, beliefs and values!
Aside from looks, the person you are on the inside is the most important. Inner beauty trumps outer beauty every time. You chose the person you’ve become, so you must love your own personality, right? I know I do! I think I’m hilarious, even if other people don’t. I am an extremely driven person. I achieve every goal that I set. I am successful. I try to excel in everything that I do. I know how to have a good time in even the worst and most awkward situations.
But I also know that I have flaws, and I just accept them. I know that I am impatient. I know that I get angry easily. I know that I could do better at leading a healthy and active lifestyle. I know that I can try to make more time for things that I love to do. Accepting your flaws and working toward bettering yourself is all you can do to become a better version of yourself. And if you are working on yourself, that’s just another quality to love about you. You’re actively trying, and that’s amazing.
Authenticity is beautiful. Remember that. Love yourself no matter what shape or size you are. You’re worth more than the number on the scale or the number of likes your photos get. You are more than your flaws. If there is something you are dying to change about yourself, the power is in your own hands.
Everyone is different; find out who you are, and learn to love that person no matter what. At the end of the day, all you have is yourself.
What are some of your best qualities? What do you love about yourself? Leave them in the comments!
