Off to the Land Down Under

That’s right, I’m going to Australia! The company I work for is sending me down to Melbourne (apparently pronounced “mel-bin” by Australians) to work in our office there for just over five weeks (May 20th – June 27th)! Since I am going for work, I’ll still be working full-time there, but that also means that the trip is all expenses paid! I’ll have the weekends off of course, so that’s when I’ll explore the city as well as travel to other places in the country.

My boss didn’t want me travelling so far alone, I didn’t mind, but he suggested I bring “a travelling companion”. Of course, offering me to bring someone was amazing and I couldn’t pass up experiencing this with someone else. So instantly I thought of bringing Justin, my only concern was what the hell he was going to do there the whole time while I work all week. Oh don’t worry, they offered him a part-time job in the finance department while we’re there. It could not have worked out more perfectly. What is more appealing than travelling across the world with the love of your life. Nothing, absolutely nothing.

So we are staying in an apartment in an area just outside of the busy city of Melbourne. We plan on flying over to Sydney for a weekend and seeing all the sights there and staying in an Airbnb. It’s Justin’s 23rd birthday while we’re there, so I want to do something extra special for him on his birthday weekend. I don’t know when the next time we will be heading to Australia, if ever, so we plan on doing all that we possibly can in the short time that we’re there. If it were up to me, I would have stayed all summer.

Unfortunately, it’s winter in Australia while it is summer in Rochester (sigh) but I have no doubt in my mind that I won’t miss anything spectacular in Rochester besides the hot weather. I’d rather be in Australia for their winter than Rochester in the summer any day. This trip could not have come at a more perfect time. I was feeling so depressed and I knew that I really wanted to get away from it all. When my boss asked me if I’d be interested in travelling for a while I said yes without any hesitation.

I can’t wait to post about everything I do while I’m in “Land Down Under” with Justin. I’ll write about the restaurants we go to, the sights we see, and the things we do. This is truly the opportunity of a lifetime and I could not be more thankful for it.
